Practical Information

The meeting will be held at the Pestana Casino Hotel in Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal. The 5 star Pestana Casino Hotel enjoys a central location on a cliff-top overlooking the port of Funchal, one of the liveliest areas in town. This excellent location is further enhanced by its proximity to the center of Madeira's capital. The Pestana Casino Hotel is close to the center of Funchal and is part of a development, which includes Madeira Casino and the Madeira Congress Centre. The entire complex was conceived by the world famous architect Professor Oscar Niemeyer, the designer of Brasilia, and is a masterpiece of modern design and construction. Most rooms have sea views and the rooms with island views face either the hotel gardens or the mountains framing Funchal.

Travel tips:
The easiest way to get to Madeira is to fly with TAP through Lisbon. There are also direct flights from London and Charter flights from Germany. Note that for the same airfare you can also stop in Lisbon for a few nights. Should you wish to take this opportunity, please contact Jose Soares quite in advance; he can arrange hotel accommodations through the University in order to get better prices (count on a budget equal or slightly lower than the Pestana Casino in Madeira.)
